Girls’ Brigade is an international, interdenominational, Christian, uniformed organisation for all ages. Its aim is to help girls discover the beauty of life and the boundless opportunities it has to offer.
GB endeavours to develop social, physical, educational, and spiritual growth so the girls are able to play a vital role in today’s society. Based on Christian principles, the well-planned programme covers a wide variety of activities both indoor and outdoor.
Girls between the ages of 5 and 17 form three programme groups:
- Juniors: 5-8 years
- Seniors: 9-12 years
- Pioneers 13-17 years
A Usual Night at GB
When the girls arrive from school they get changed into their uniforms and have afternoon tea. Then the programme runs as follows (approximate times):
3.00pm Afternoon tea
3.15pm Games; Fall-in and Roll Call
3.30pm Girls break into sections and work on their badges
4.30pm Devotions and Singings
5.00pm Home time
Fathers’ Day BBQ
Around Fathers’ Day, we go down to Aranga Holiday Park and have a special BBQ for the Dads and men in our GB families. This is a BBQ with a difference with games and cooking over an open fire.
Each year we take the girls and their families on a camp. This is a fun-filled event with everyone welcome.
These events are opportunities to make friends with others from around Northland.
Area Church Parade
There is normally an Area Church Parade every second year followed by an afternoon of activities.
Sometimes during the year there is a get together for all the girls in a particular section, Junior, Senior, or Pioneers. This may involve just a day activity or a sleepover/camp somewhere in the Northland area.
